Privacy

Privacy, in plain language.

This is a public project website. You can read it without an account, and it does not accept taxpayer documents.

On this page

PrepReturns.com explains a software project developed from Trio Tax’s preparation work. This notice applies to this public information website. It does not describe a hosted tax-preparation service, a client portal, or the separate Trio Tax and Trio Ledger websites.

What happens when you visit

Your browser requests pages, images, styles, and fonts from the site’s hosting infrastructure. Those requests necessarily disclose connection information, including your IP address, requested URL, browser information, and the time of the request. Referrer information may also be sent according to the browser and the referring site’s policy.

The site is configured for Render’s static hosting infrastructure. Hosting and delivery providers may process request and operational logs to deliver content, maintain security, investigate failures, and operate their services. These logs are separate from website analytics. We do not promise that infrastructure logs are absent or that they are deleted on a particular schedule we have not verified.

Website analytics

We use Google Tag Manager to load and manage Google Analytics 4. These services help us understand how visitors find and use PrepReturns.com and improve the website.

Google Analytics can collect information such as pages viewed, interactions, referring pages, and browser and device details. It uses cookies to distinguish visitors and visits. Requests to Google’s services also disclose connection information, including your IP address. Google explains its processing in How Google uses information from sites that use its services.

You can manage cookies in your browser settings. Google also offers an Analytics opt-out add-on for supported browsers.

Fonts and product images are served with the site. There is no newsletter database, account registration, or payment process here.

Contacting the project

The contact page directs you to Trio Tax. Following that link leaves PrepReturns.com. The destination’s own privacy practices apply to the information you choose to provide there.

If you contact the project, your message and contact details may be used to respond and continue the conversation. Do not send Social Security numbers, tax returns, account credentials, or client documents as part of an initial project inquiry. This website is not a secure intake channel for taxpayer information.

Synthetic product examples

The screenshots show fictional preparation examples used to explain the software. They are not invitations to upload a real return and do not establish a client relationship. Publicly displayed forms retain synthetic and review-copy context.

The private preparation engine is a separate project. Its local-workspace heritage does not make this public site a place to store or process tax records. Any future service handling real taxpayer information would need its own security architecture, operating terms, and privacy explanation.

Other websites

Links to Trio Tax, Trio Ledger, official references, and other destinations are ordinary external links. Those services may use different technologies, cookies, and data practices. PrepReturns does not collect information you submit on those external websites.

Questions and updates

For a privacy question about PrepReturns.com, use the contact route and identify the public website in your message. Describe your concern without including sensitive taxpayer information. We may need enough context to locate a particular interaction, but there is no visitor account here to sign into or delete.

If the public site’s data practices change, this notice should change with them. The effective date identifies this version; it is not automatically refreshed when the site is rebuilt.
