Terms
Terms for this public website.
Read, explore, and evaluate the project. The website is a showcase of preparation software, not a service for preparing or filing your return.
On this page
These terms describe the use and scope of the PrepReturns public website. The site presents a practitioner-led software project, its development history, synthetic examples, and editorial views. No purchase, subscription, or user account is offered here.
Information, not a professional engagement
The website’s articles, examples, and descriptions are general project information. They are not individualized tax, accounting, legal, or investment advice. Reading the site or making a project inquiry does not create a tax-preparation, advisory, or other professional engagement.
Tax consequences depend on facts, the applicable year, and relevant law. Product descriptions explain intended and supported software behavior; they should not be used as instructions for resolving an actual taxpayer’s return without appropriate professional work.
What the product examples mean
Screenshots and form images use synthetic businesses and fictional taxpayer information. A demonstrated workflow is evidence of that example and its documented scope. It is not a promise that every return, document format, transaction, state, or tax year is supported.
“Finished return” on this website describes preparation and output: forms, supporting statements, workpapers, and a saved package. It does not mean electronic filing, transmission, signatures, IRS acceptance, or authorization to file. Review-copy and not-for-filing markings remain material context.
The capabilities and limitations pages explain the project’s intended boundaries. Alpha 14 is the human-testing generation. Form 1040 is future work. The website does not provide a hosted preparation application or accept taxpayer uploads.
Project status and future direction
Roadmap items express direction rather than guaranteed delivery dates or commitments to provide a service. Descriptions may evolve as research, testing, and professional review change the project’s understanding.
PrepReturns is private today. Discussion of an open-source future does not grant a software license, source access, distribution rights, or a right to use an unpublished engine. Any future release would be governed by the license and terms actually published with it. No public download is offered here.
Site content and references
The PrepReturns and Trio branding, original writing, and product presentation are provided for viewing and evaluation. Ordinary links to public pages are welcome. References to IRS forms identify the forms shown in the software; they do not imply government sponsorship, certification, or approval.
Third-party names, materials, and websites remain subject to their respective rights and terms. An external link is provided for context or contact and is not a representation that PrepReturns controls the destination’s availability or content.
Responsible use
Do not attempt to interfere with the site, gain unauthorized access to systems, impersonate the project, or submit sensitive taxpayer information through an unrelated contact channel. Automated access to the public pages should respect the site’s resources and published access instructions. The machine-readable files are discoverability aids, not a separate grant of software rights.
If you find an apparent vulnerability or accidental disclosure, follow the security page and use the external project contact route. Avoid including real taxpayer data or exploiting a suspected issue to demonstrate it.
Availability and questions
The site is provided as public project information, without a promised uptime, response time, or support service level. We work to describe the project accurately, but the material can contain errors and the site can change or become unavailable. Nothing here overrides responsibilities that cannot lawfully be excluded.
For questions about the project or these terms, contact through Trio Tax. A separate, explicit agreement would be needed for any professional engagement or future software service.
